About

Welcome to the UASB Next Generation Biofertilizer Unit, a pioneering initiative that sprouted its roots on January 1, 2022, under the esteemed Waste to Wealth concept. Our journey is intricately woven into the fabric of the “Establishment of Pilot-Scale Demonstration Plant for Production of Microbial Inoculants Using Corn Cob as Carrier.” This ambitious endeavor is generously funded by the National Agricultural Higher Education Project, Indian Council of Agricultural Research and World Bank.

Jaivika Siri, the innovative new product, is the result of collaborative efforts led by Dr. N. Umashankar, the principal scientist of NAHEP-Waste to Wealth project (Professor, Department of Agricultural Microbiology). Co-principal investigators, including Dr. P.S. Benherlal (Associate professor, Department of Biotechnology) Dr. Siddayya (Professor, department of Agri. Business management) and Dr. Suvarna V Chavannavar (Professor, Department of Agricultural Microbiology) played crucial roles in its development.

Nestled within the vibrant confines of the Department of Agricultural Microbiology at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, our unit stands as a testament to innovation, sustainability, and the transformative power of agricultural microbiology.

At the heart of our mission is the UASB Next Generation Biofertilizer Unit, a hub where knowledge meets action. Our pilot-scale plant, a jewel in our endeavors, not only marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of sustainable agriculture but is poised to become a beacon for students, entrepreneurs, and industry partners alike. Here, we invite you to “experience and learn” the intricate production principles of microbial inoculants—a vital stride towards a greener, more fertile future.

Our focus is steadfast, targeting the waste product of maize cultivation, particularly the often-overlooked corn cob rind/ shank. In our hands, this seemingly discarded waste transforms into a valuable carrier material for biofertilizer, embodying the essence of “Jaivika Siri”.Jaivika, meaning in kannada the living, and Siri, meaning wealth, together forge a living wealth, when introduced to your soil, enriches it in ways beyond measure.

“Jaivika Siri” isn’t just a phrase; it’s a promise. A promise of sustainable agriculture, a promise of a healthier planet, and a promise of shared prosperity. Join us on this exciting journey as we redefine the relationship between waste, wealth, and the future of agriculture.
